User Interface Add-ons

From talking about macros, it's good to talk about what user add-ons I use. None. I don't use any. I don't think a rogue should fuck with their interface. The reason why is because a lotta' user interfaces completely modify WoW's interface so that it's easy to click icons to use their attacks instead of using keyboard commands.

I'm gonna' tell you right now... when you're in the heat of battle, you can't be clicking icons because you have to use your mouse to navigate. PvP fighting is NOT like PvE fighting. You need to keep your right mouse button clicked down so you can steer when moving and there are many, many, many times when you have to use your left mouse button to see to your sides or behind you. When it comes time to use an ability, such as blind, or back stab or whatever, you can't be moving your mouse down to click a button... you need to hit a key on your keyboard and keep on movin'. When you realize that you need to do something, such as cloak of shadows and vanish, or shadow step and ambush, you normally will only have a few milliseconds to take action. If you don't have 90% of your abilities key mapped, you're not playin' at your full potential. (I can shadow step up to a player on a flying mount in the air and ambush them before I fall back down by pressing keys on my keyboard... It'd be impossible to do that clicking icons.)

A lotta' rogues go out to look for a 'better" interface over WoW's interface because they're "click" idiots. WoW's interface is hard to use if you plan on clicking every button, so rogues flock to user interfaces that setup abilities close together so it's easy to click. The traits of a good rogue is a rogue that uses every ability to them in every situation. When you realize this, you HAVE to have all of your ability icons out on your screen AND key mapped.

Like check this shit...
Here's a rogue that's completely decked out in gear. He's usin' a user interface that looks like what most rogues use. This subtlety rogue only has stealth, sprint, evasion, vanish, distract, blind, premeditation, preparation, cloak of shadows, gouge, kidney shot, something custom and two trinkets on screen. Are you fuckin' kiddin' me?? Where's kick, throw, deadly throw, envenom, rupture, expose armor, shiv, feint, sinister strike, (if speced) shadow step, (if speced) ghostly strike, mount? Not to mention any extra stuff from trade skills or anything picked up.

How on earth is this rogue 'sposed to put a bleed (via rupture) on a rogue (to keep them from vanishing), or expose armor for a warrior or deadly throw for players that try to "kite" you (keep you from attacking at close range)? Fact is, this rogue ain't...

Rogues can kick ass with or without add-ons. But, no matter how good you are, you're only half as good if you're not using key bindings for everything. Right now, I have every ability key bound besides feint, shiv and envenom (don't use envenom in PvP because I don't use deadly poison in PvP). What you need to do is, whether you use an add-on or not, is put your abilities in the best locations possible (put vanish next to cloak of shadows because being able to see their cool down status side-by-side can save you time). Then, key bind almost all of your abilities you'll use close to each other. When you need to use an ability, you should be able to look down at your keyboard for a split second just to hit "n" or "u" or "=" and return to your mouse in less than a second.

Of course, all of your abilities won't fit onto your action bar, so go into your interface and enable your other action bars. As you can see from my fresh blood elf rogue kill in full PvP gear (I love my full stealth detection spec), I have all of my abilities at the bottom of my screen... and then I have items I'd use (food 'n' stuff) or "social" macros to the right of my screen. The abilities are then mapped and I train myself the keyboard commands for them, so when I think "Oh... Expose Armor!" I just hit my "U" key. (this also makes you much better at PvE)
Some of my commands are near my movement keys, so I don't have to use my mouse hand, like shadow step, ambush, ect... but most of the others I use my mouse hand. It might sound slower for some of you, "My hand's already on my mouse, why not just move my cursor to the icon." but it's not. You need your mouse to steer or look at your targets, and when you let go of your mouse for a second you can hit whatever abilities you need on your keyboard and then go back to your mouse's position for movement or viewing.

So when it comes to add-ons, talking about the ones that fuck up your interface, that's why most rogues get'em... for the wrong reasons. Havin' your health and energy at the center is cool, but I perfer no add-ons because I look up any ways, to see if I have any debuffs on me, so it's just as easy to then look at my health and energy up there... Basically, it's like this... Blizzard invented WoW rogues, they play rogues... if fuckin' around the placement of shit with add-ons was better in the long run, they would change the interface to be like that. They haven't because everything's in it's place for a reason. I hate hearing these dumb ass alliance rogues that are 'sposed to watch my back, die within seconds and say shit like "sorry man, my UI interface add-on isn't working with this new patch so I'm having to use wows interface and i dont know how to use it".

If you choose to use an add-on, make sure it's for the right reasons... and make damn sure that when a new patch rolls around, you don't end up dead talkin' junk like "my ui got jacked not my fault for dying!!1!1"
